HOUSE VERTICAL EXTENSION

The client wanted to add a new floor to a portion of their house. In order for the project to be successfully completed, the existing walls and foundation of the existing house had to be capable of taking on the added weight of the extra floor and new roof. New structural members had to be designed.

LVL BEAM DESIGN

The client wanted to demolish a load bearing wall between the kitchen and living room in their house to have an open space. The contractor wanted to use a LVL wood product as a load transfer beam.

WOOD BEAM REINFORCEMENT

The owner of a store renovated the first floor and added a concrete topping as well as heavy equipment.  The wood beams supporting the floor did not have enough capacity to support the additional weight, the solution was to reinforce the beams.

Installation of generator on parking garage slab

A new generator unit weighing 3000 pounds had to be installed on an existing parking garage concrete slab on the 2nd level. The problem was to find out if the existing structure could support the added dynamic load of the generator without any reinforcement.

CAR SHELTER

A car shelter manufacturer wanted to verify the design of their single car shelter model. The temporary structure had to be optimized to resist snow and wind loads in winter conditions. One of the challenges of this project was designing with thin walled cold-formed steel tubes. Also, the galvanized steel tubes for the car shelter were being imported from China and had to meet local regulations.

FRAME FOR JUNGLE GYM AT CHILD DAYCARE

For this project, the client was planning to build a new jungle gym frame for their daycare center. The frame had to be designed for dynamic loads using hollow structural steel members (HSS). One of the challenges was designing the connections.
